Most illustrations of EuroGraphics puzzles are of collage or collection around a common theme. For example, Asian Oil Paper Umbrellas is a collection of Asian themed paper umbrella. The oil paper umbrella, as the name implies, is made of paper coated with a fine layer of oil to make it water repellent from the rain. Oil-paper umbrella were common throughout Asia. The umbrellas design and color symbolized different meanings. For example, purple for longevity and red to ward off evil spirits, especially for weddings.
Specifically for this puzzle, the umbrellas’ patterns are vibrant and colorful. All the umbrellas have different designs, but some may have the same background color. Additionally, this puzzle is part of EuroGraphics’ Colors of the World collection.
Build
Because of the umbrellas’ different and unique patterns, the pieces were easy to spot and sort. Instinctively, we focused on sorting by design and building those sorted pieces first. Finding the edge pieces was not a priority. Fortunately, some of the umbrellas pieces also had edge pieces. The harder umbrella designs were solved last.
Difficulty
Overall, it took two eight year old kids about three hours and fifty one minutes (03:50:54) to complete the puzzle with tiny help from their dad. The puzzle is a bit more than moderately challenging. However, it was a lot of fun to solve because of the colorful designs.
Lastly, EuroGraphics Asian Oil Paper Umbrellas is the 26th puzzle from our 87 puzzle collection. Leave a comment if there are any other EuroGraphics 1000 piece puzzles that you would want us to review.
