Family Portrait is a collage puzzle consisting of nine panels. Each panel features a family pet, either a cat or dog with their own distinctive patterns. Each pet is a different breed and has their own color scheme, therefore, no one pet or panel looks the same. The colors are bold and vivid, which makes the puzzle even more distinctive. My favorite panel had the black and white cat in the upper right hand corner.

Build

Collage puzzles are easier to sort than most other type of puzzles, because the different collages groups the puzzle into specific portions. The build strategy was to first sort the border pieces, then to sort and build the nine different panels as we went.

Difficulty

This is our fastest JaCaRou puzzle to date, which was completed in about two hours and twenty minutes (2:19:38). The puzzle was essentially nine different smaller puzzles combined together in a collage, thus making it easier to solve. In addition, the distinctive patterns and colors for each panel made sorting relatively easy. Everyone in the family worked on their specific panel which reduces confusions and redundancy in solving for the same pattern and area. The hardest panel was the brown cat in the upper left hand corner due to the cat’s muted color. Even though, blue dog in the bottom right hand corner was the last panel completed, it was relatively quick compared to the brown cat. In addition, the borders of the panels was the most repetitive part of the puzzle as it used the same paisley pattern throughout.

Finally, Family Portrait is the 41st puzzle from our 87 puzzle collection. It is also the last JaCaRou puzzle in the collection. Please leave a comment, if there are any other JaCaRou puzzles, you would like for us to review. Per feedback on Reddit, many people were not overly impress with the designs of JaCaRou puzzles. However, I personally adored them and enjoyed working on them for the illustration and quality of the puzzle.
